On Saturday, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma while attending a meeting at ITA Machkhowa stated, “Like the Sun rises in the east, all Indians were Hindus.”

According to a report by Time8, CM Sarma said that it was only 300 years back when a section of people living in India converted themselves to Islam, while attending a discussion on Uday Mahurkar and Chirayu Pandit’s book ‘Veer Savarkar: the Man Who Could Have Prevented Partition’.

All Indians lived as Hindus for 4700 years: Assam CM Sarma

CM Sarma added, “It’s the universal truth like Sun rises in the east. All Indians lived as Hindus for 4700 years. It’s only after the arrival of Muhammad Ghori and Babar that a section of Indians started to follow Islam. But no one can deny the fact that everyone’s forefathers were Hindus. They became Muslim only since 4-5 generations back.”

Despite religion, culture and history of Indian is same: CM Sarma

While adding to his statement he mentioned that ‘despite following different religions, the culture and history of every Indian are the same.’ and, “Veda said ways may be different but truth is same. It’s the leftists and liberalists who brought fundamentalism in the society and party like Congress took advantage of this division. Today we have to accept the reality and balance our history and present to instill peace and progress in the society.”
