Assam: Govt to invest up to Rs 100 Cr to light up entire Guwahati

The Department of Housing and Urban Affairs has decided to invest up to Rs 100 crore to light up the entire city to make Guwahati a smart city.

Assam State Minister for Minister for the Department of Housing & Urban Affairs and Irrigation, Ashok Singhal also said, “Builders who fail to complete the real estate projects within the committed time will face strict punishment.” He also instructed the Chairperson of the Real Estate Regulatory Authority to use GMC/GMDA to identify those builders. Also tasked with resolving individual apartment buyer issues.

‘Guwahati Smart City’ initiative

The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) also announced that Vi Business, the enterprise arm of Vodafone Idea, has been selected as its smart city partner under the ‘Guwahati Smart City project. 

GMC will supply Vi’s Intelligent Mobility solutions to Guwahati Municipal Swacch Bharat workers as part of this partnership.

How will this work?

The geotagged and geo-fenced Vi Mobility SIM cards will also allow the company to monitor the field staff’s operations 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, using real-time dashboards. 

GMC staff will be able to keep connected to Vi’s network via Vi SIMs, which can be used on both feature phones and smartphones. According to an official statement, this would assist GMC to ensure the safety of field employees and increase the efficiency of day-to-day operations. 

The launch of the partnership

In the presence of government authorities and Vodafone Idea officials, the cooperation was officially launched in Guwahati by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday. 

The relationship is part of the Guwahati Smart City plan’s pan-city project division’s System Integration activities, the statement added.

“Our association with the Guwahati Municipal Corporation’s Smart City program is an example of the intelligent technology we bring to the table under Vi’s Enterprise Mobility offerings… We are delighted to be chosen as a partner to GMC’s Smart City program project,” said Abhijit Kishore, Chief Enterprise Business Officer, Vodafone Idea Limited.
