As per reports, Guwahati Police raided a teer gambling den in Bamunimaidam of Guwahati, Assam.
About the incident
On the late hours of December 28, in yet another operation against gambling, the Central Guwahati Police Department and personnels of the Chandmari Police Station raided a Teer gambling den in Guwahati’s Bamunimaidan Railway Colony.
Items recovered:
The police said that as many as 8 individuals were arrested in charge of the gambling. Things such as Teer tickets, registers, vouchers, 6 mobile phones, 3 calculators and an amount of Rs. 29,915 were recovered from the place.
What is Teer?
“Teer” is a lottery-style archery game of indigenous origin where betting involves people who have to guess the number of arrows that will hit the bull’s eye. Jhandi-munda, another such game, is played at many places.
People with knowledge about gambling in the state claim that these illegal gambling have sprung up in every nook and corner of Assam.
