After uncovering a big IPL betting ring in Assam, the crime branch’s sleuths are now on the lookout for high-profile bookmakers linked to the T20 World Cup 2021 betting ring.
At least three high-profile bookies from Assam are purportedly operating out of Siliguri in North Bengal, according to reliable sources.
Arrest of high-profile gamblers in Assam
It should be noted that the city police crime section arrested three high-profile gamblers on October 12, 2021, who were reportedly involved in unlawful betting on the outcome of IPL matches.
The criminal section, led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Numal Mahato, started an operation in several parts of the city based on the information and arrested the trio.
Dipesh Bajoria, Raunak Bajoria, and Rajesh Jain were the gamblers detained.
After their weeklong police remand concluded on Tuesday, at least two of the arrested alleged bookies were remanded to judicial custody.
According to crime branch sources, the two provided the identities of approximately 50 state racketeers during their interrogation. The majority of them were said to be on the run.
Raid at Agarwal’s home
The crime branch stormed the house of one Ajay Agarwal in Guwahati’s Nabagraha neighborhood on Monday based on their confession. The crime branch recovered five mobile handsets and Rs 3.66 lakh in cash during a raid at Agarwal’s home.
According to police records, Agarwal is also on the run.
Meanwhile, the names of several high-profile businessmen and contractors have come to light as a result of their alleged involvement with the IPL betting ring.
According to sources, these high-profile businessmen and contractors are purportedly operating from all over the country.
