Chancellor, Girijananda Chowdhury University, Joins The Assam Royal Global University
On the 18th of September, 2023, the academic landscape of The Assam Royal Global University (RGU) witnessed a significant addition as Prof. Alak K. Buragohain, the Chancellor of Girijananda Chowdhury University, took on the role of Chairperson (Academics) at RGU. This notable appointment marked a convergence of academic excellence from two esteemed institutions, promising a brighter future for students and faculty alike.
Prof. Buragohain’s educational journey commenced in Shillong, where he completed his early education. He was among the first batch of graduates from the North Eastern Hill University in Shillong. His academic pursuits took him to Gauhati University for post-graduation in Botany and later to the Imperial College of Science Technology and Medicine, London, where he earned his Ph.D. in Plant Molecular Biology under the University of London. Furthermore, he obtained a DIC in Plant Virology (Microbiology) from the same prestigious institution.
Prof. Buragohain’s illustrious career includes being the Founder Head of the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at Tezpur University. He also served as the Vice Chancellor of Dibrugarh University. Notably, he had a brief but impactful stint as the first Chancellor of Girijananda Chowdhury University in Guwahati before assuming his new role as the Chairperson (Academics) at Royal Global University.
His extensive leadership experience across various Higher Educational Institutions in the region brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise that is expected to benefit the RGU community immensely. His academic journey from Shillong to London and back to Assam exemplifies a lifelong commitment to the pursuit of knowledge and excellence in the field of education.
Recently, on the 15th of September, 2023, RGU hosted an enlightening awareness program with a focus on ‘Mera Bill Mera Adhikar.’ This event, a collaborative effort between the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST), Guwahati Zone, Students’ Welfare-RGU, and the Royal School of Commerce, was designed to provide informative and interactive insights into India’s taxation system. Distinguished dignitaries graced the occasion, shedding light on the nuances of taxation, the crucial role of CGST, and the significance of the ‘Mera Bill Mera Adhikar Campaign.’
The program concluded with an engaging interactive quiz, where participants had the opportunity to test their knowledge and win captivating prizes. This initiative showcased RGU’s commitment to holistic education, encompassing not only academic excellence but also awareness of real-world issues.
