A new flyover will be built near the Jalan Bus Terminus in Dibrugarh. For the convenience of students, the city will also get its first foot overbridge, which will be built at Dibrugarh University above A T Road.

According to sources, the Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, would lay the foundation stone today.

Lemon Village

On the other side, a village 70 kilometers from Dibrugarh is being transformed into a model ‘lemon village’ to enhance employment and per capita income.

The village in question is Cheleng Chuk, which is already well-known for its abundance of Assam’s two famous lemon kinds, ‘gol menu and ‘kaji nemu.’ A huge quantity of ‘kaji nemu’ was recently sent to international nations like Dubai and London, where it was well appreciated.

Cheleng Chuk hamlet, which has a population of roughly 570 people, is being developed as a ‘lemon village’ as part of an ambitious scheme being carried out by the Dibrugarh district administration and the Agriculture department.

A project under which 125 families will be benefited and be made self-sufficient by the cultivation and sale of lemons was inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner of Dibrugarh, Pallav Gopal Jha, last week.

Another flyover in Assam

Flyover

In November 2020, the foundation stone for the new Maligaon flyover was placed. The new flyover connecting Maligaon with Kamkhya Gate and Pandu in the city was officially inaugurated by Sarbananda Sonowal.

The proposed flyover is a four-lane highway that will stretch from Maligaon to Assam Trunk Road, crossing the Kamakhya Gate. It will have an outstretched arm that will lead to Pandu Ghat. The flyover is expected to cost Rs. 383.72 crores to build.

The flyover will be built by the Assam PWD (Roads) under the ‘State-Owned Priority Development (General) Scheme.’ This flyover is expected to be completed in two years from the start of construction.

Guwahati’s inclusion in the first phase of the Central Government’s Smart City Project implies that both the State and the Central governments want Assam and Guwahati to become the country’s new growth engines.
