Over 200 Doctors, Healthcare Workers, Students and Community Members Join Awareness Rally
Guwahati, September 29, 2026: Aimed at promoting cardiovascular health and encouraging preventive healthcare practices, GNRC Medical, North Guwahati, in association with the Asian Institute of Nursing Education (AINE) and GNRC Medishop, organised a walkathon in North Guwahati to mark World Heart Day 2026.
The awareness initiative brought together more than 200 participants, including doctors, healthcare professionals, students and members of the local community. The event sought to highlight the importance of maintaining heart health through regular physical activity, healthy lifestyle choices, stress management and timely medical check-ups.
With cardiovascular diseases continuing to be an important public health concern, the walkathon provided a platform to take the message of heart disease prevention directly to the community.

Walkathon Brings Healthcare Community and Public Together
The event witnessed participation from people across different sections of society, reflecting the importance of collective action in promoting cardiovascular health.
Doctors and healthcare workers joined students and community members in the awareness rally, creating an environment where medical professionals could directly engage with the public on the importance of preventive healthcare.
The participation of students was particularly significant, as young people can play an important role in promoting healthier lifestyles within families and communities.
The walkathon also served as a reminder that heart health is not solely a matter of clinical treatment but requires consistent attention to lifestyle and preventive practices.
National Taekwondo Medalist Diganta Bora Flags Off Event
The walkathon was flagged off by national Taekwondo medalist Shri Diganta Bora, alongside Dr. Krishna Chandra Narzary, Senior Consultant, Cardiology, and Dr. Sudeep Dutta Baruah, HOD and Consultant, CTVS (Paediatrics).
The presence of a national-level sportsperson added a strong message about the importance of physical activity and fitness in maintaining overall health.
Dr. Dutta Baruah delivered the welcome address, setting the tone for the day’s programme and highlighting the significance of coming together to promote awareness about cardiovascular health.
The participation of medical professionals and a sportsperson also reinforced the connection between regular physical activity, preventive healthcare and long-term wellbeing.
Doctors Highlight Importance of Preventive Heart Care
Addressing participants during the event, Dr. Krishna Chandra Narzary emphasised that maintaining a healthy heart requires consistent lifestyle practices and timely medical attention.
He highlighted the importance of regular exercise, a balanced diet, stress management and timely health check-ups as essential components of cardiovascular health.
The message focused on prevention rather than waiting for symptoms or complications to develop before seeking medical care.
Regular physical activity can form an important part of a healthy lifestyle, while appropriate dietary habits and effective stress management can support overall cardiovascular wellbeing. Timely medical check-ups can also help identify potential health concerns at an early stage.
World Heart Day Promotes Global Cardiovascular Awareness
World Heart Day is observed annually to raise awareness about cardiovascular diseases and encourage individuals and communities to take steps towards protecting heart health.
The 2026 observance provided an opportunity for healthcare organisations and communities to reinforce the importance of prevention and healthier lifestyle choices.
Public awareness programmes such as walkathons can help take health messages beyond hospitals and clinical settings, making preventive healthcare a community-wide conversation.
The North Guwahati walkathon brought this message directly to residents while providing healthcare professionals an opportunity to engage with people in an informal community setting.
Physical Activity at the Centre of Heart Health Message
The choice of a walkathon as the central activity was closely aligned with the event’s focus on cardiovascular health.
Walking is a simple form of physical activity that can be incorporated into everyday routines by many people, depending on their individual health and physical capabilities.
By bringing together more than 200 participants, the event demonstrated how physical activity can simultaneously serve as a health practice and an effective tool for community awareness.
The initiative encouraged participants to view exercise as part of a broader commitment to preventive healthcare rather than simply an occasional activity.
GNRC Reinforces Commitment to Community Healthcare
The walkathon also reflected GNRC’s continued efforts to promote healthcare awareness beyond clinical treatment.
Healthcare institutions have an important role in educating communities about disease prevention, early detection and healthy lifestyle practices. Awareness initiatives can complement clinical services by helping individuals understand the importance of taking proactive steps towards their health.
Through its collaboration with AINE and GNRC Medishop, GNRC Medical, North Guwahati brought together different components of the healthcare ecosystem for a common public health initiative.
The participation of healthcare professionals and students further strengthened the educational dimension of the programme.
Students Play Role in Spreading Health Awareness
The involvement of students, particularly those associated with healthcare education, added another important dimension to the event.
Students can serve as effective ambassadors for health awareness by carrying messages about healthy lifestyles and preventive practices into their families and communities.
Their participation also provides an opportunity to connect classroom learning with real-world public health initiatives.
By taking part in the walkathon alongside doctors and community members, students experienced first-hand the importance of community engagement in healthcare.
Community Participation Strengthens Awareness Campaign
The participation of local community members demonstrated the relevance of cardiovascular health awareness at the grassroots level.
Heart disease prevention requires sustained awareness and behavioural changes, making community involvement an important component of public health efforts.
The walkathon created a shared platform where medical professionals, students, sportspersons and residents could participate in a common cause.
Such initiatives can help make conversations around heart health more accessible while encouraging individuals to consider their own lifestyle and preventive healthcare practices.
A Collective Message for a Healthier Community
The successful conclusion of the World Heart Day walkathon reinforced the message that protecting heart health requires collective effort.
From regular exercise and healthy eating to managing stress and undergoing timely check-ups, preventive practices can play an important role in maintaining cardiovascular health.
The participation of more than 200 people in the North Guwahati initiative demonstrated the potential of community-based activities to bring health awareness into the public sphere.
The event ultimately served as both a fitness activity and a public awareness campaign, encouraging participants to make heart health a consistent part of their everyday lives.
Through the initiative, GNRC Medical, AINE and GNRC Medishop reaffirmed their commitment to promoting cardiovascular awareness and preventive healthcare across communities in Assam.
