Former Assam Congress president and Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora’s resignation has opened to generate complications in the state.

Meanwhile, Mr Bora had blamed Assam Congress leaders for his defeat in the recent Rajya Sabha elections after joining the Trinamool Congress on Sunday and even accused a section of Assam Pradesh Congress leaders of maintaining a secret understanding with the BJP government, primarily Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
However, the Assam Congress retaliated by accusing him of being self-centred.
CM Sarma adds new dimensions to Ripun Bora’s resignation
Nevertheless, the Chief Minister has thrown a fresh dimension to the debate by repeating Mr Bora’s assertions in his resignation letter that Congress leaders and MLAs were assisting him.

Moreover, Mr Sarma stated that if a Rajya Sabha election is held tomorrow, Congress MLAs will vote for him.
CM Sarma said “It is a fact that 9-10 Congress MLAs voted or assisted us in the Rajya Sabha elections, and they will assist me again if the Rajya Sabha elections are held tomorrow. Whether you call it their treachery of the Congress or their love for me, the truth is that if Rajya Sabha elections are held tomorrow, they will once again assist me.”
Further, Mr Bora claimed infighting within the Assam Congress as the key cause for his resignation in his resignation letter.
He joined Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool on Sunday, ending his four-decade affiliation with Congress.
In addition, he also criticised party leaders for his loss in the Rajya Sabha elections, accusing some Assam Pradesh Congress leaders of having a hidden agreement with the BJP administration.
“Since I have spent 22 years in Congress, practically all Congress Assam leaders, including Ripun Bora, are close to me. Many leaders and MLAs from Congress have shown an interest in joining the BJP. We need to make room for them, and those who want to join us will join other parties, but they tell me that Congress has no future. It’s a developing problem, and you’ll see a lot more exits from Congress in the coming months ” Mr Sarma continued.
