PM Modi addresses the country today on the occassion of 59th maritime day celebration.

On the occassion of the 59th Maritime Day celebration, the Prime Minister gave a speech on the importance and significance of this day.
He recalled the moment saying it is ‘the glorious history’.
As per the reports, Modi said, “in the last 8 years our maritime sector has scaled new heights and contributed to boosting trade and commercial activities.”

The maritime day is celebrated every year on 5th of april to cause awareness among the people about trade and economy in the international sector.
The day marks the first commercial vessel of India to have sailed from Mumbai to London in 1919. The vessel was named after SS Loyalty.
The Scindia Steam Navigation Company which was a large company owned these vessel. The day is widely celebrated to remember the strategic role of inida in the global trade and economy. During this day, Award of Excellence is also given to those who has given their service in the maritime sector.

The theme for this year was ‘Sustainable shipping beyond covid 19. The award Varuna is given to those who has given exceptional service in this field by PM Modi.
