Are you in a live-in relationship and living in Uttarakhand? The couples of Uttarakhand must register themselves as ordered by the Uttarakhand Uniform Civil Code.

Uttarakhand Introduces Bill Mandating Registration for Live-in Couples

A new bill introduced in Uttarakhand’s legislative assembly proposes bold regulations for individuals involved in or intending to enter live-in relationships. Under the proposed Uniform Civil Code (UCC), such individuals would be required to register themselves once it comes into law.

Those who are planning to enter into live-in relationships or are already in one should register themselves under Uttarakhand’s Uniform Civil Code (UCC) once it comes into law. Non-compliance with the regulations outlined in the bill could lead to severe penalties, including imprisonment for up to six months, a fine of Rs. 25,000, or both.

The bill of Uniform Civil Code (UCC) aims to establish uniform laws governing various aspects of civil matters, including marriage, divorce, property rights, and inheritance, for all citizens irrespective of their religious affiliations.

This was tabled in the Uttarakhand assembly today amid chants of “Jai Shri Ram” and “Vande Mataram”. Moreover, the law speaks of parental consent. The consent of parents is required for individuals below the age of 21 as they will be required to submit a statement to the Registrar stating whether they are residents of Uttarakhand or not.
