Artists from Manipur have been awarded with the prestigious Padma Shri for their exceptional contribution in the field of trade and art.
Lourembam Bino Devi, Muktamani Devi, Konsam Ibomcha Singh from Manipur have been felicitated with one of the highest civilian honors.

About the Padma Shri awardees from Manipur
Lourembam Bino Devi and Muktamani Devi, were recognised for their contributions in art and trade and industry, respectively.
Veteran applique textile artist Lourembam Bino Devi, 77, is famous for preserving the Leeba textile art of Manipur for over five decades.

And Muktamani Devi, 49, is an inspirational woman entrepreneur exporting and popularizing handcrafted woolen shoes.

Like his parents Ibomcha is also blessed with skill of doll making. He is a 58-year-old man from Imphal East, Manipur.
He adapted his father’s technique and has also received the Manipur State Award. The traditional dolls he makes are commonly known as ‘Laiphadibi’ or ‘Laidhibi’ and were made by older women from waste clothes. Today he is the only one in the region to be making this style of dolls.

About Padma Shri awards
Padma Shri is the 4th highest civilian award of the Republic of India. It is awarded by the Government of India every year on India’s Republic Day.
The awards are given in three categories Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri. The award seeks to recognise achievements in all fields of activities or disciplines where an element of public service is involved.
The awards are given under the categories of Art, Social Work, Public Affairs, Science & Engineering, Trade & Industry, Medicine, Literature & Education, Civil Service and Sports.
Also, awards are given for propagation of Indian culture, protection of human rights, wildlife protection among others.
