Manipur: On December 22, two cadres of the banned People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK-Pro) were arrested by the security forces at the Indo-Myanmar border in Chandel district.
About the incident in Manipur:
According to the sources, the two were arrested after the troops from Assam Rifles’ Sajik Tampak Battalion launched an operation near the Indo-Myanmar border based on specific information. Later, the detained militants were handed over to Police for further investigation.
About PREPAK (Pro):
The People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) is an armed insurgent group demanding a separate and independent homeland. PREPAK was formed in a meeting held in Cheirouching, Imphal, on 9 October 1977, underthe leadership of R.K Tulachandra.
Later in year 1980, a small group split off from PREPAK and formed the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) led by its late leader Y. Ibahanbi.
