Manipur Congress demands removal of Union Minister of State

The Manipur Congress on January 6, made a demand for the removal of Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhowmick on charges of inciting clashes among the workers of the Youth Congress and the BJP Yuva Morcha in Imphal.

About the demand:

The demand was made by All-India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Bhakta Charan Das, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president N. Loken and other State party leaders. 

Chaos took place in Manipur:

Some of the members of the Yuva Morcha 
had indulge themselves in activities where they burned the figures of Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in front of the party office which had reportedly led to the clashes. The Youth Congress members charged that police pickets which had become permanent features were deserted and the personnel came back much later. Besides they remained mute spectators, it was alleged. Police denied it, saying that they separated the two groups.

Barish Sharma, BJP Youth Morcha president stated that they burnt the figures in protest against the security lapses during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Punjab. However, H. Goswami of the Congress said that the BJP members kicked the locked gate of the Congress office and shouted slogans. A complaint has been lodged with the city police station against the BJP members, alleging that they pushed around the Congress members, including women.
