In yet another fight against illegally smuggled items, the Security forces in Siaha, Mizoram have seized an amount of 1 crore Kyat, Rs. 4.20 lakhs after conversion.
1 crore Kyat seized:
The aegis of Assam Rifles in a statement said that the notes worth Rs 4.20 lakh, were found in an operation which was carried out based on specific information by the sources, in Khaikhy village in south Mizoram’s Siaha district near the Myanmar border.
About the accused:
It further said that the foreign currency notes (10000000 in Myanmar’s Kyat) and the accused were handed over to the state excise and narcotics department for further legal interrogation.
Previous cases:
Earlier, in the year 2021, the Aizawl Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), recovered unaccounted Indian currency, KENVO BIKE and three mobile phones in A Diltlang.
According to a statement, the operation was carried out by a team of Assam Rifles and Police based on specific information. Approximate cost of the recovered cash is Rs. 16, 07,700. As the police seized, they also detained two individuals.
Again, in the same year, the Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), along with representatives of the YMA recovered unaccounted Indian currency amounting to Rs 80,00,000 at Zokhawthar in the state where one individual was detained by the legal authorities.
Over the years, the Assam Rifles have been fighting the smuggling menace in the state. And its operations have been successful in thwarting the smuggling nexus along the Indo-Myanmar border.
