Officials in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district reported an army officer and four other servicemen were slain in action during an encounter involving security forces and terrorists on Monday.
They claimed an anti-insurgency operation was initiated in the early hours of the morning in a village near Dera Ki Gali in Surankote after intelligence inputs about the presence of highly armed militants there.

When the latest reports were acquired, the battle was still going on. The ultras who were hidden began firing on the search party.
The concealed terrorists opened fire on the search groups, culminating in a ferocious battle in which a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and four other soldiers were critically injured. They died as a result of their wounds.
According to a defence spokeswoman, the interaction with the terrorists is ongoing and more information is pending.
Heavily armed terrorists reported to be hiding in Chamrer forest
Officials stated there had been reports of a gang of heavily armed terrorists hiding in the Chamrer forest after sneaking across the Line of Control (LoC).
The area has been flooded with reinforcements to seal all of the terrorists’ escape routes.
