Heavy rain continues to soak parts of India, with the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting continued rains and thunderstorms across northeast and southern India.
Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms Expected to Continue Through Friday
Northern Assam-Bay of Bengal: Precipitation Influence of the cyclonic system: Generally scattered to fairly widespread rain showers with isolated thunderstorm activity.
Places: Arunachal Pradesh Assam Nagaland Manipur Mizoram Tripura Meghalaya Sikkim West Bengal Odisha Telangana Andhra Pradesh Parts of South Maharashtra Goan Karnataka Kerala Tamil Nadu For some higher heights part of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim, it would snow mixing with rain.
On Thursday, the IMD predicts fairly widespread rains over various states, notably in northeastern Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Meghalaya.
This pattern will continue through Thursday with isolated thunderstorms prevailing over scattered places. These are to be similar states in the case of Sikkim, West Bengal, Odisha, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, southern Maharashtra and Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu.
Some of the high-altitude areas in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim may receive snowfall. Cold air is likely to mix with the ongoing rain, which may result in a wintry mix. Scattered rain accompanied by lightning is likely to occur in Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Fogs are expected; isolated shallow fog is possible in early morning hours over Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Odisha. The IMD has issued a warning to tourists and people residing in the above states to be alert while going for morning tours as fog causes poor visibility and poses risk to roads.
Friday Weather Outlook: Northeast Sees Rain and Snow; Southern States See Heavy Rainfall
The IMD has further mentioned that on Friday, November 1, weather conditions would lead to continued rain over Northeast and South. Rain along with isolated thunderstorms are likely to spread over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Telangana, southern Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu.
More parts of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim may get snow with rain again; temperatures will dip there too. Nagaland, West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands can expect isolated thunderstorms and scattered rains.
Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh would see shallow fog at places during early morning hours. The low visibility caused by the fog would hamper road and rail transports; IMD advises the people residing in these states to be cautious.
National Five-Day Forecast: Cyclonic Circulations to Guide Precipitation Patterns
The next five days will see two upper-level cyclonic circulations driving rain patterns with moderate to heavy showers across southern and northeastern India. A first cyclonic system located over the southwest Bay of Bengal and the other one located over the Gulf of Mannar will keep southern states like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and Telangana wet until the weekend.
A separate cyclonic circulation is likely to cause a fresh spell of heavy rains over the northeastern states in general and Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, which are likely to bear the brunt of the situation. This system will weaken by the weekend and bring some relief to the ongoing rains.
Other parts of the country, western and central regions, will be mostly dry over the weekend. Even though there may be some rain in parts of the country, temperatures across India are likely to remain above average for the next few days, potentially bringing warmer-than-average conditions to regions that would normally be cooler this time of year.
Above Average Temperatures Expected Throughout India
Above-average temperatures have been forecasted throughout the nation by IMD. This could continue alongside rainy weather conditions in the Northeast and South. Warmth and dryness would be uncharacteristic of these regions since cyclonic circulations have not yet occurred.
In those areas, this can translate to more elevated than normal daytime temperatures and, thus, might impact agriculture. The coming weather should alert farmers as the weather will influence the cycle of the crops, mainly in the rain-fed agricultural areas.
Advisory for Residents and Travelers
Considering these predictions, the IMD advises the public in the affected districts- especially those living at hill stations where snowfall generally occurs-to monitor the developments and be ready for these.
In other places too, like Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, low visibility does cause road and rail halts, and the vulnerability to accidents increases accordingly. Residents in southern and northeastern India are advised to keep a close eye on the rainfall patterns, which can lead to localized flooding and waterlogging, especially in urban areas, as the rain continues for more hours than usual.
Residents must prepare for different types of weather impacts as cyclonic circulations continue to influence the weather patterns in India. The IMD has predicted continued wet conditions in parts of the country and above-average temperatures elsewhere.
