Conrad Sangma who is the present Chief Minister of Meghalaya welcomed Amit Shah‘s push on the recent statement on making Hindi language compulsory in northeastern state.

Conrad Sangma’s decision
The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Sangma stated to the people of the state at large that learning Hindi is an advantage for the young genration. This statement has come after the recent push of Amit Shah to make Hindi Language compulsory in Northeastern states.
As per reports, Sangma said that, “I have seen the benefit of learning Hindi and English. I dont see any reason why learning a new language whether hindi, english or japanese is a bad thing”.
He further added that since hindi language is spoken at large in the entire country, learning hindi will give the people an upper hand to communicate better. Both Hindi and English should be given equal weightage. Just like English is necessary in the professional field, similarly when it comes to the ground level or the national level, Hindi is important. However, as of today no official written document has been passed in this regard.

The concern of making Hindi language compulsory has arised after the Home Minister made a statement on the 37th meeting of the Parliamentary Official Language Committee. He stated that Hindi Language must be made compulsory in all states and people should speak in Hindi instead of English.
He further added that, “nine tribal communities of the north eastern states of India has converted their dialect scripts to devanagari while the eight states has also agreed to make Hindi compulsory language in school up to class 10.” He also stated that, Elementary knowledge of the subject is important and so is the teaching examination.
CM Conrad Sangma also stated to the media that more emphasis should also be given to the local languages and proper documentations should be made to promote the local languages.
