Barpeta: 2 ‘huge’ elephant tusks recovered by Assam Police; 5 arrested

Barpeta: Despite the imposition of strict law by the Government, the animal body trade culture is still on track in certain places.

On the evening of December 22, the Assam Police apprehends 5 individuals in charge of smuggling two ‘huge’ elephant tusks. 

About the operation Barpeta:

The tusks were recovered in a joint operation which was initiated by officials and personnel of Howly police station, Barpeta Road police station and 10th Battalion of the CRPF at around 5:30 PM on Wednesday. 

Other items to be seized:

Besides the two huge elephant tusks, the police officials also seized a Swift Dzire car and three mobile phones from the possession of those arrested. 

Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta informed the incident through a tweet where he wrote, “Yesterday 2 huge elephant tusks were recovered at Moutupori village in Howly. The operation was a joint effort by Howly and Barpeta Road PS. 5 persons carrying the tusks, have been arrested so far and the car they were travelling, has been seized.”
