The Assam Government had taken necessary decisions for the uplifting of Bongaigaon, keeping in view the over all welfare of the district.
As per the Assam Cabinet decisions on November 24, Bongaigaon will go a long way in ensuring access to quality health care, enhance quality of education and to encourage sporting activities in the region.
Decisions taken:
-The colleges in the district will be upgraded to university in the tenure of 3 years.
-As much as Rs 542 crore to be invested for Bongaigaon Medical College and the commencement of construction to begin within 5-6 months, besides a Grant-in-aid of Rs 25 crore to be given for construction of a stadium.
About the District:
Bongaigaon district occupies an area of 1,724 square kilometres.This district is surrounded by Barpeta in the east, the Brahmaputra in the south and Chirang in the north and west corner. Its urban areas extend till Chirang district.
The NTPC Project:
Besides the above mentioned welfare projects, the National Thermal Power Station in Kokrajhar is under construction power project which is located at Salakati near Kokrajhar in Kokrajhar district in Indian state of Assam. The power plant is amongst the coal based power plants of NTPC. The coal for the plant will be derived from Makum coal mines at Margherita, Assam and also from Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL).
