Four airports of Assam – Silchar, Jorhat, Dibrugarh and Lakhimpur airport to be modernized. In order to expand the area, Assam government has decided to give away lands to Civil Aviation Ministry.

Assam Government to expand airport
The decision to hand over the land will come in force from 10th may on wards. The announcement to such an initiative by the government was made on Tuesday during the inauguration of the Libabari Flying Training Organisation in Lakhimpur.
As per reports, The chief minister said that, the government has as of now given away 84 acres of land to the aviation ministry in order to start the process. A basic strip has been constructed along with an isolation bay.
The process of acquisition of land has started for the four airports. Dibrugarh and Silchar land acquisition is almost over says the chief minister. Himanta Biswa Sarma has also stated that an amount of Rs 180 crore has already been signed for the purpose of acquiring land at Jorhat.

Recent developments
Recently, The first Indian made aircraft also started its operation from Assam to Arunachal Pradesh wherein top officials like the CM of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Aviation Minister were present to flag off the operation.
Dornier 228, a passenger aircraft, was flagged to operate from Dibrugarh in Assam till Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh. This is the first time ever that an aircraft made in India had operated. The aircraft is a commercial 17 seater non pressurized aircraft having an AC cabin that can operate both during the day as well as in the night.
