Assam: Father-daughter scammed by unidentified individuals

A father-daughter got scammed in an ATM with their ATM card by a few unidentified men in Barsapara, Assam.

Talking to The North-Eastern Chronicle, on March 19, the victims shared that the father asked his daughter to accompany him to the ATM to withdraw some cash. As per them, a man and a girl child of around 10-12 years old went inside the ATM in Barsapara, Assam, and after they came out, the father went to withdraw cash. 

When he tried to withdraw the cash, the machine was not working. After that, a man entered the ATM who was around 28-35 years old. That unidentified man asked her father to try again but the Atm was not working and that he would try some other ATM, but then the man asked him to try again. 

Meanwhile, two to three other men entered the ATM, and then when her father was trying, those men might have taken note of the PIN from behind. 

Afterwhich without providing the OTP, the miscreants got hold of Rs 1 lakh transactions. The incident took place in the SBI ATM, Opp BSNL Office, Binovanagar, Lutuma.

When her father opted to go to some other ATM, those men offered him to check it again. They said ‘uncle maybe your card is bent, try to put it by making it straight’.  

They also held the debit card meanwhile, they exchanged the ATM card with someone else’s ( name B Borah) with falsification and made a transaction of Rs 50 thousand at 9:36 am + Rs 50 thousand at 9:37 am. And they went to another ATM near their house (Bharali service) and withdrew Rs 9,500 + Rs 4,500. Within 4 mins, they have lost Rs 1,14000. The balance left is just Rs 69. 

FIR filed but the Police gave false hopes

The duo has filed an FIR in Fatasil Ambari Police station, but they gave them negative hopes about finding the culprits and recovering the money. This amount was for his daughter’s education, who is currently pursuing  Bcom Hons from Delhi University and has visited Guwahati for vacation. 

Furthermore, they are asking for help from the concerned person so that this fraud does not happen to anyone else.
