A tract of the Kokila river in Arunachal Pradesh is being diverted for expansion of the runway of the greenfield airport being constructed at Hollongi near Itanagar, which is likely to be inaugurated by August, 2022.

Area covered for the construction:

Evaluating the ongoing construction work of the project Chief Minister Pema Khandu on December 28, said that the government has acquired about 500 square of land beyond the runway while the Kokila River that runs along the airport boundary is being diverted.

The CM also added that the construction was to be completed by November 2022, but it is due to the pressure of the centre and the state government that they had to shift the date of completion to August.

About the airport in Arunachal:

Once completed the greenfield (new) airport will be the first in the mountain state with a runway of 2300 meters eligible for landing and take off of Boeing 747 aircrafts. Hollongi is situated 14-km South of state capital, Itanagar.
