Bengal man raped his pet dog for 2 years
A shocking incident has come to light where a 60-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping his pet dog for two years. The incident took place in the Chouhati Payarabagan area of Sonarpur police station in South 24 Parganas. Ratikant Sardar was apprehended on Thursday evening after a couple of neighbours caught him on camera while committing the heinous act.
As per sources, Sardar was spotted in an inebriated and unclothed condition while the dog howled. The locals said,”Sardar had been engaging in sexual acts with his pet dog for nearly two years now. We had repeatedly asked him to release the dog and refrain from such an act, but he refused to listen to us.” After facing repeated defiance from Sardar, the residents decided to shoot a video of the accused while he was raping and shared it on social media.
Unfortunately, the video went viral on social media, and an animal lover’s organization came across it. After watching the disturbing footage, the Kolkata Animal Welfare Foundation filed a written complaint against Sardar at the Sonarpur police station. Founder Sandeepan Mukherjee stated, the video was filmed about a year ago by locals who were unaware of animal protection acts and failed to take necessary action.
Mukherjee added that Sardar had allegedly lured female street dogs and raped them over the years, but he had managed to escape the consequences until now. “We came across the video of the abominable act on Wednesday. We lodged a formal complaint based on the same under Section 377 and 11 of the Animal Cruelty Act, following which an FIR was filed,” said Sandeepan Mukherjee, Founder of Kolkata Animal Welfare Foundation. He will be produced at the Baruipur court on Friday. Meanwhile, the dog was sent to a veterinary hospital on Thursday evening, which confirmed sexual abuse. The animal has been kept under observation at an animal treatment center in Sonarpur.
Similar incident took place in Delhi few weeks ago
In another incident, a man from Delhi’s Inderpuri area was caught-on-camera raping a female dog. The incident came to light after a neighbour of the accused filmed the act on camera and reported it to the police. The video of the incident has gone viral on social media.
On the basis of the complaint, the accused was booked under Section 377 (unnatural offences) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. The police began searching for the accused on the basis of the video and arrested him on Saturday.
According to the complainant, it is believed that he heard the victim dog’s cries coming from the house of the accused when he got home late on February 28. He then saw the man sexually abusing the dog while he has a wiper in his hand with which he is threatening her. The incident was then brought to the notice of a member of People for Animals, Surbhi Rawat.
Surbhi posted the video on social media and also talked to the Inderpuri SHO, who agreed to lodge the FIR after watching the video. In a statement, Surbhi said that the accused had been raping the dog for a month and according to his mother, the man is a pedophile too. “If we check his history, he used to bully little girls as well. Section 377 has been imposed on him, which is like for a person who had an unnatural sex with man, woman, children or an animal,” she said.
Speaking on the matter, animal rights activist and lawyer Ashish Sharma said, “The accused was arrested on the same day the complaint was made considering the gravity of the case.”
