Various projects reviewed by CM Sarma for development of Dima Hasao

On January 20, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reviewed various development activities being executed in the Dima Hasao district by the NC Hills Autonomous Council at the DC Office conference hall.

About the meeting:

In the meeting, the CM discussed the progress of different schemes under MoS, JJM, MAC Development Fund, DRDA, PM-KISAN, NFSA, DAY-NULM etc. The Chief Minister asked the Council to take measures for maximization of revenue collection and plugging revenue leakages.

The Chief Minister inaugurated the newly constructed “Krishi Bhawan” at Haflong today. Constructed under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY), the building consists of a district Agricultural office, Horticulture Department, Agriculture Marketing Department, Agriculture Engineering Department, Additional Director of Agriculture (Hills) office etc.

The Chief Minister also spent time to see the organic products of local farmers displayed at the new building campus. He also planted a sapling. The Chief Minister inaugurated the newly constructed basketball court at Gopinath Bordoloi Memorial LP School, Haflong. He also interacted with the teachers of the school.

Chief Minister Sarma also inaugurated a zip lining at Joya Thaosen Park at Haflong. It will give a new dimension to adventure tourism in the Dima Hasao district. This zip lining involved a financial outlay of Rs 45 lakh from the contingency fund of NC Hills Autonomous Council.

CM Sarma inaugurates NL Daulagupu Sports Stadium:

The Chief Minister inaugurated NL Daulagupu Sports Stadium with a three-storeyed RCC Dormitory Building at Haflong. Constructed under NLCPR with a budgetary outlay of Rs 1611.18 lakh, this sports complex will significantly boost the sporting environment in the district. Sports Minister Bimal Bora, Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika and CEM NCHAC Debolal Gorlosa, KAAC CEM Tuliram Ronghang, MP Haren Bey were present.

Moreover, the Chief Minister also dedicated an oxygen plant under PM CARES at Haflong Civil Hospital to the people of the district.

Further, the Assam cabinet on January 19, approved the introduction of commerce and science streams in a number of colleges, and also a scheme for time-bound promotion of faculty members of medical colleges of the state, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said. 

Addressing a press conference after the meeting, Sarma said that the Cabinet on January 19, approved introducing the commerce department in two colleges and science stream in eight colleges of the state. A Dynamic Assured Progression Scheme was also approved, under which faculty members in medical colleges in the state will be entitled to their promotion in a time-bound manner whether there is a vacancy in that higher position or not, he added.

Sarma also included that election procedures for several autonomous councils of the state, including Moran, Mottock and Kamatapur, were also approved by the Cabinet. It also gave its nod to a proposal for setting up the second zoo in the state, which will come up at Dholai in the Cachar district. We have approved Rs 214 crore for this zoo. It will be an open zoo where animals will roam around freely and visitors will be inside vehicles. It will be the first such zoo in the state, he said.

The only zoo in the state currently is in Guwahati. The chief minister said problems facing the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC), including difficulties in timely payment of salary to its employees, were also placed before the Cabinet. As a major relief to NCHAC, it was decided that the state government will foot the salary of about 100 class 1 and 2 officers of the Council, he said.

CM Sarma further added that funds were approved for a stadium and a water supply scheme for Haflong in order to boost the immense tourism potential of the (Dima Hasao) district, Rs 50 crore will be spent on developing infrastructure in Haflong, Umrangsu and Panimur.
