Men reportedly belonging to the ‘Samiyadi’ community have been arrested for allegedly exhuming and consuming human flesh during a temple festival at Sakthi Pothi Sudalai Madasamy Temple in Tenkai Tehsil of Tamil Nadu.

’Samiyadi’ people’s take on their inhumane ritual

According to reports, police arrests eight people allegedly exhuming and consuming human flesh during a temple festival at Sakthi Pothi Sudalai Madasamy Temple in Tenkasi tehsil of Tamil Nadu.

The men involved in the ritual reportedly belong to the ‘Samiyadi’ community.

According to a report by India Today, one Samiyadi (god-man) was seen entering a trance, dancing and holding a human skull on a sword, the video of which was with IT.

Other Samiyadis were caught on camera trying to bite the remaining tissue on the skull.

Village administrative officer files a complaint

Reportedly, the village administrative officer filed a complaint regarding the issue. The accused have been detained for questioning.

Additionally, the report says, “When the police asked them about allegedly having exhumed and consumed human remains, they said they were not aware of the human remains and did not know what they were doing since they were in a trance.”

“Samiyaadis” are people who claim to get possessed by local gods and make prophecies in a trance-like state, providing solutions and judgments to people’s problems. They are bestowed with respect in their respective communities.

However, the accused “Samiyaadis” claim that they have no recollection of the event as their memories are wiped out during trances, according to the Times of India.

Furthermore, “Samiyaadis” of other Sudalai Madasamy temples in the district reportedly go to crematoriums or burial grounds during the night-time as a religious ritual to find corpses.
