Protests erupt in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district after the party announced it will be contesting 10 seats in the upcoming Manipur Legislative Assembly elections.

As per reports from EastMojo, protestors burnt the Naga People’s Front Party flag in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district.

As per information, the released list includes two former Congress leaders who recently joined the party.

The NPF, has shortlisted M Francis Ngajokpa and Dangsawa Korungthang Maring, former Congress leaders, from Tengnoupal’s ST constituency for the Manipur polls.

Several party workers were disappointed with the allotment of the party ticket.

Even a few of the party workers alleged that the party gave a ticket for Tengnoupal constituency to a candidate who did not have the public’s approval.

Protest was staged after party issued ticket to new entrant

The protest was organized after the party issued a ticket to a new entrant by supporters of Morung Mokunga, a former minister and an advisor to NPF president who sought an NPF ticket from Tengnoupal.

Reportedly, last year in December the Tengnoupal unit of the NPF had warned of a mass resignation.

Mass resignation was warned about if they gave the party ticket for the Manipur elections to D Korungthang Maring.

D Korungthang Maring, was then in Congress and was planning to join NPF. Which he eventually joined in December 2021.

More about the protest

This was not the first protest that had erupted amidst the state polls next month.

Few days back after the BJP released the 60 candidates list for Manipur polls, disappointed party officials stormed on roads and started protests in Manipur.

Along with pulling down party flags and banners and setting them on fire they also burnt statues of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister N Biren Singh and shouted slogans.
