On Thursday, 6 January, just after Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s safety was jeopardised in Punjab, the Ministry of Home Affairs established a committee to investigate the breaches that led to the “grave security risk.”

Sudhir Kumar Saxena, Secretary (Security), Cabinet Secretariat, will lead the three-member committee, which would also include Intelligence Bureau Joint Director Balbir Singh and Special Protection Group Inspector General S Suresh.

The committee has been told to produce its report as soon as possible.

The development comes just hours after the Punjab government formed a high-level committee to investigate the situation on Thursday.

According to news agency ANI, Punjab BJP chairman Ashwani Sharma stated the party’s “rejection” of the state government’s commission, stating, “This committee created by the Chief Minister will never be able to find out anything because he is the ringleader of this plot.”

Following a ‘security lapse,’ Prime Minister Modi, who was slated to attend a rally and launch numerous projects in Punjab on Wednesday, returned to the Bhatinda airport, cutting his visit to the state short.

The MHA said in a statement that the PM’s convoy, which was on a flyover near the National Martyrs Memorial in Hussainiwala, couldn’t go any farther since the road was blocked by demonstrators.

The state administration, which is run by the Congress, has contested the security-related charges.
