The Mizoram government has launched an online payment system in the Transport department, an official said. The Minister of transport T J Lalnuntluanga launched the online payment system in the state on 31st August.

The Minister said that the department in collaboration with the National Informatics Centre (NIC) and State Bank of India (SBI) introduced an online payment system which the users can access anywhere and anytime to pay which will also make the transaction easier during the pandemic.
What the Minister has to say?
The Minister said, “the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown caused a delay in the implementation of the project. However, it also put pressure on the department to quickly shift from physical to digital mode of payment as movement restrictions bar the public from making cash payment at the office counters”.
There are two components in the payment system
The online payment system is divided into two components. The first component is called Vahan which deals with new vehicle registration, issue of duplicate permits, permit renewal, tax payment, fitness renewal fee, issue of special permits, duplicate registration certificate, ownership transfer fee, issue of NOC, registration renewal and change of address.
The second component called Sarathi is a platform where applications for learner licence, driving licence, conductor licence, licence renewal, change of name, duplicate driving licence, conductor licence, address and photos, and updating phone numbers can be submitted.
