At a time when the fear of Omicron variant is looming over the country, three returnees from foreign countries have tested positive for Covid-19 disease in Manipur’s Bir Tikendrajit International Airport on December 19.
About the returnees:
Three of them are residents of Imphal West district of Manipur. As per the sources, out of the three, two people returned from Amsterdam in the Netherlands and one from Canada.
Current status:
All three of them have been admitted to Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital for medical attention. Furthermore, their samples will be sent for genome sequencing to check whether they have been infected by the Omicron variant of COVID-19.
Current scenario across the country:
Meanwhile, India recorded 5,326 new COVID-19 cases, 453 deaths in the last 24 hours, pushing the overall caseload to 3,47,52,164 and the total death toll to 4,78,007, as per data released by the Ministry of Health on December 21. The active cases stand at 79,097.
