In Guwahati where one would find everything in terms of food, there was this specific item ‘Laphing‘ which was missing out of the menu. But now a stall is finally in the city which offers you laphing.
Northeast India is a melting pot of cultures and cuisines. With strong influences from its neighbouring states and countries, Assam has developed some unique foods that you rarely find anywhere else in India.
A stall is run by an elderly couple near Barowari in the Uzan Bazar area of Guwahati. They are also Instagram (@laphing_point_guwahati) accepting orders and bringing one of the delicious cuisines in Guwahati city.
Previously, the couple used to run a Amul Diary shop. It was due to the prevalence of the Covid-19 pandemic which led the owner Satyendra Nath Sarma, to make a drastic change in their stall from a Diary shop to a stall selling Tibetan food.
While speaking to ‘The North-Eastern Chronicle’, owner’s wife Kalpana Devi said, “We never heard about laphing until one fine day my son, Suraj Sarma tasted the item while he was in Delhi. The very next moment he called me and asked me to try preparing Laphings. I tried multiple times, but it was quite a tough one, so I never thought of making them again, and finally after 7-8 days I could make it properly.”
“It was due to the pandemic that our business went downhill and then I decided to try something new. This led me to cook laphing and after a lot of struggle it finally came out well,” she further added.
