On Thursday, Assam observed state’s first Chief Minister Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi’s 71st death anniversary as ‘Karmachari Divas’.
On the same day as a tribute to him, Assam government decided to introduce a compulsory book on the life and history of the state’s first chief minister Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi in higher secondary courses.
The book shall contain the entire contributions of Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi.
“In recognition to the immense role of Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi, state government will introduce a book at the higher secondary level to be compulsorily read by the students.” CM Himanta Biswa Sharma announced at a tribute ceremony held at his samadhisthal.

To keep the legacy alive
Himanta Biswa Sharma said that he’ll be forever grateful to Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi for saving Assam’s identity which was about to be lost otherwise.
So to keep the legacy of the legend alive, the decision was taken. He also stated that if the generation of the state abides to the words of Bordoloi, the state can have a better future.
Gopinath Bordoloi as a writer
Bordoloi was an incredible writer. He wrote various books like “Buddhadeb”, “Annaskaktiyog”, “Hajrat Mohammad” and “Shreeramachandra”.
Bordoloi’s contribution
Gopinath Bordoloi was a believer of the Gandhian principles so didn’t supported violence. He made significant contribution in protecting Assam and making it an integral part of India.
He also made great contribution in establishing Gauhati University, High Court of Assam, Assam Medical College, etc.
His contributions will be celebrated across generations.
