In an effort to upraise the tea tribes in Assam, on Monday, August 30, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma declared the establishment of seven committees, that will comprise members of the community, to view and make suggestions regarding the key areas such as education and skill development, health among others.
‘Humder Moner Kotha’
“Based on these recommendations, the government will come up with necessary schemes that will be incorporated in the next state budget,” Sarma said. Previously, in a programme titled ‘Humder Moner Kotha’, Sarma held a meeting with intellectuals, community leaders including poets, professors, writers, doctors, bureaucrats and politicians of the community on Monday evening.
In July, Assam Chief Minister attended a similar programme where he met different members from the indigenous Muslim community belonging to various fields, to discuss their socio-economic issues of Assam.
Preparation of roadmap for all round development of the community
In regards to the meeting on Monday, the Chief Minister’s Office said the goal behind the meeting was to “prepare a roadmap for all round development of the community”. Various issues including “infrastructural development, exploring alternative and additional livelihood, proper education, health infrastructure, preserving heritage, culture, language etc.” were also discussed.
Goal of the seven sub groups
Sarma said that the seven sub groups will be formed for “in-depth study” that will focus on education, health, culture, skill development, literature, sports and employment of the community. A government officer will also be a member secretary of each committee.
Sarma said this is just the start and there will be further such meetings with the community in the coming six months.
