The situation on the Assam-Mizoram border has been escalating further. In recent developments, Mizoram Police has filed an FIR against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and various other officials at Kolasib Police station in Mizoram.

The FIR came after a similar notice was issued to Mizoram officials and another to the Rajya Sabha MP from Mizoram, K Vanlalvena, in New Delhi in connection with a clash between the two-state police forces.
Individuals named in FIR filed
The FIR named CM Sarma and others, including Assam Inspector General Anurag Aggarwal, Deputy Inspector General Devojyoti Mukherjee, Cachar Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli, Cachar Superintendent of Police (former).
It also named Vaibhav Chandrakant Nimbalkar, Forest Officer Sunnydeo Choudhury, the officer in charge of Dholai police station Sahab Uddin, and 200 unidentified Assam Police personnel.
Details in the FIR
In the FIR, it is alleged that a team of “200 fully armed” Assam Police personnel, led by the IGP, intimidated Mizoram’s team of 20 officers and attempted to “forcefully occupy” their police camp calling it an encroachment of reserve forest.
The FIR summoned police officers in the question of interrogation at Vairengte Police Station on August 1.
At the Vairengte Police Station in Mizoram’s Kolasib district, which borders Assam’s Cachar, a first information report was filed under numerous sections of the Indian Penal Code, including “attempt to murder.”
According to the allegation, Assam police officers, following Mr. Sarma’s orders, refused to hold an “amicable dialogue” with Mizoram police on the day of the event.
According to the FIR, they “forcefully informed SP, Kolasib that the area falls within Assam territory and they intended to construct a camp as per the instruction of Chief Minister, Assam himself.”
“They had arrived at the spot with tents and other materials for construction of camp which clearly showed their intention to forcibly occupy the Mizoram BOP by force, as their convoy of vehicles consist of Ambulances and around 20 vehicles,” it read.
Reason behind FIR
In connection with the Monday incident between the two state police forces, the Mizoram Police issued summons to six Assam senior officials on the same day as the Assam Police issued summons to Mizoram officials and another to Rajya Sabha MP from Mizoram, K Vanlalvena in New Delhi.
The two states have conflicted for decades over the border, but tensions have risen again this week.
The Monday clash
Violence erupted in the border area between the two districts on Monday, with each side accusing the other of starting it.
The conflict erupted over Mizoram’s purported building in the disputed 198-square-mile area of the inter-state boundary between Lailapur in southern Assam’s Dhalai district and Vairengte in northern Mizoram’s Kolasib district.
Following appeals from the Chief Ministers of both states to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, a sudden stillness has settled over the violence-stricken districts.
The Central Reserve Police Force has boosted its presence in these areas, with five companies (totaling 500 troops) stationed between Assam and Mizoram’s police forces.
