Assam: CM Sarma inaugurates new infrastructure at Haflong Government College

On January 20, CM Sarma inaugurates the newly-constructed arts block, auditorium and boys’ hostel building at Haflong Government College.

About the project:

Built with a total amount of Rs 15.35 crore under NLCPR and SOPD schemes, the new infrastructure is expected to give a boost to academic environment in the Dima Hasao district.

Saying that the Assam government will provide Rs 10 crore for construction of a new science block at the college which will be completed within two years, chief minister Sarma urged chief executive member NCHAC Debolal Garlosa to identify land for second campus of the college. “There is a plan of introducing PG courses on all subjects in the college,” Sarma said.

CM advises authorities to introduce Assamese spoken courses in college:

The chief minister also advised the representatives of NCHAC and college authorities to start Assamese spoken courses in the college, which will immensely help the students in working across Assam while opening more employment avenues for them.

Education minister Ranoj Pegu, water resource minister Pijush Hazarika, CEM NCHAC Debolal Gorlosa, CEM KAAC Tuliram Ronghang, MLA Nandita Gorlosa, DC Dima Hasao Nazreen Ahmed, principal of Haflong Government College Madhumita Daulagupu were also present on the occasion.

Visit to namghar:

Earlier, the chief minister also visited the decades-old ‘namghar’ at Haflong and offered his prayers. He interacted with the devotees there and assured to look into the demands of the management committee for infrastructure development.

Thereafter, he also paid a visit to Ramkrishna Seva Samiti at Haflong and offered prayers. He interacted with the devotees and took stock of the activities being carried out by the Samiti and various issues faced by them.

Weekly Cabinet meeting at Haflong:

On January 19, CM Sarma organised the weekly Assam Cabinet in Haflong. The Assam cabinet approved the introduction of commerce and science streams in a number of colleges, and also a scheme for time-bound promotion of faculty members of medical colleges of the state, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said. It also approved several projects to boost infrastructure in the Dima Hasao district. Haflong, the headquarter town of the district, hosted the Cabinet meeting.

Addressing a press conference after the meeting, CM Sarma said the Cabinet today approved introducing the commerce department in two colleges and the science stream in eight colleges of the state.

The Assam Cabinet on Wednesday approved the introduction of commerce and science streams in a number of colleges, and also a scheme for time-bound promotion of faculty members of medical colleges of the state, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said. It also approved several projects to boost infrastructure in the Dima Hasao district. Haflong, the headquarter town of the district, hosted the Cabinet meeting.

Addressing a press conference after the meeting, Sarma said that the Cabinet approved introducing the commerce department in two colleges and science stream in eight colleges of the state. A Dynamic Assured Progression Scheme was also approved, under which faculty members in medical colleges in the state will be entitled to their promotion in a time-bound manner whether there is a vacancy in that higher position or not, he added.

Sarma said election procedures for several autonomous councils of the state, including Moran, Mottock and Kamatapur, were also approved by the Cabinet. It also gave its nod to a proposal for setting up the second zoo in the state, which will come up at Dholai in the Cachar district. We have approved Rs 214 crore for this zoo. It will be an open zoo where animals will roam around freely and visitors will be inside vehicles. It will be the first such zoo in the state, he said.
