On January 30, CM Sarma held a meeting with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat, who is on a five-day tour of Silchar in Assam from January 27.
Assam CM meets RSS chief:

The closed-door meeting was held at Keshav Niketan, the South Assam address of the RSS and ended after an hour of discussion. However, CM Sarma avoided questions from the press after the meeting.
The security in the area was amplified ahead of Chief Minister’s visit. The CM met the locals of the area after the meeting was over.
About the meeting:
The meeting gained much importance after a group of senior RSS leaders of Cachar expressed resentment before Bhagwat on Friday over the delay in CAA implementation. Further, senior RSS leaders also informed the RSS chief that the Bengali Hindus in Assam still face citizenship problems.
RSS leader accuses Congress:
The State government’s policy on the appointment of third and fourth-grade posts also had adverse reactions in the Barak Valley. The senior RSS leaders reportedly alleged that the Congress culture is making inroads into the state BJP.

The meeting between Bhagwat and Himanta Biswa Sarma gained much significance. Details of the meeting remained under the wrap. Sarma later went to Lakhipur to lay the foundation stone of Sahid Nandachand Bridge.
CM Sarma announced construction:
In the meantime, CM Sarma announced the construction of an integrated SDO(C) office and a stadium at a cost of Rs 37 crore during his visit to Assam’s Lakhipur town.
Besides, in order to improve connectivity in the state, the Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for the construction of the balance work of Shaheed Nandachand RCC bridge over river Chiri on Shibpur-Lakhipur road in Cachar.
