Jeremy Lalrinnunga, a 19-year-old weightlifter from Mizoram, won a gold medal in the 67 kg category at the Commonwealth Championships.
Even though couldn’t breach his personal best, he lifted 305 kg to win the gold medal in the men’s 67 kg category at the Commonwealth Championships at Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Mizoram CM Zoramthanga, took it to Twitter wishing Lalrinnunga for his victory. He wrote, “Congratulations @raltejeremy on winning Gold Medal at the Senior Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship for India. #Mizoram is proud to have a talented and hardworking sportsperson like you.”

Lalrinnunga also created national record
The 19-year-old also created a national record in the snatch event enroute his podium finish but was unable to do the same in the clean and jerk section where he failed to lift 168kg.
Also, In the World Championships, which are being held simultaneously with the Commonwealth Championship, he was placed 4th in snatch and 7th overall.
Jeremy suffered leg Injury
He was unable to make the cut for the Tokyo Olympics as at that time ie., in April he injured his leg during the Asian Championships. However, he finished fourth at the Junior World Championship in May.
Since he won gold at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics, Jeremy is seen as a big prospect for India in weightlifting. He was fast-tracked into international competition with an eye on the Tokyo Olympics.
