After a gathering of approximately 1,500 people gathered for the funeral of a monkey in a village in Madhya Pradesh, two persons were detained for allegedly violating Covid protocols.
Villagers organizes funeral rites of a monkey
Residents of Dalupura village in Rajgarh district organised funeral rites after the monkey died on December 29. A funeral procession is shown, with hymns being sung as people take the bier to the cremation site.
In compliance with Hindu customs, a young man named Hari Singh shaved his head. The monkey was not a pet, but he was a regular visitor to the village. Monkeys are respected in several parts of the country because of their connection to Lord Hanuman.
Hundreds of people were sat in rows under a massive pandal in a video of the feast. As a bunch of men go about serving meals, women and children are observed eating.
Prohibition of public gatherings amid surge of covid cases
The gathering occurred at a time when the state is experiencing a Covid outbreak fueled by the new fast-spreading Omicron strain, and big public gatherings are prohibited under Section 144 of the CrPC.
As many more villages hide in dread of action, police have filed a case for violation of Covid protocols and detained two persons.
