If someone transports livestock illegally, the state government will be able to sell the vehicle that was used for that purpose with court permission. Cows can travel across districts, with the exception of the districts bordering Bangladesh.
It does, however, permit the movement of cows to border districts for the purpose of milking. The Assam Cattle Preservation (Amendment) Bill, 2021, was passed by the Assembly today.
Government decides to sell vehicles
“We observed people illegally carrying livestock torching their truck when they are arrested,” Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated in support of the bill. To eliminate proof, they do so in Srirampur and Boxirhat. Cattle smuggling is a serious problem and car owners should be aware of this.”
CM Sarma further stated,”With the court’s authorization, we will sell cattle-smuggling trucks. We promised the people in the run-up to the previous Assembly election that we would crack down on livestock smuggling. We’ve received the mandate, and we’re going to safeguard the cows. Cattle smuggling still occurs at a rate of 20-30%. Cows are obtained illegally by certain smugglers. It will be restricted by the government.”
“For milk, we want to use cows. We’re in discussions with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) about producing 10 lakh litres of milk each day. For this, we’re putting together a Rs 1,400-crore project.” The Chief Minister told the House that the police had registered 406 cases of cattle smuggling, seized 2,808 cows, detained 240 smugglers, killed one (in police action), and injured five others (in police action).
