The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Bipin Rawat, was laid to rest with full military honours at Brar Square crematorium in Delhi cantonment today. His daughters Kritika and Tarini performed Rawat and his wife Madhulika’s last rites.
The Chopper Crash
General Rawat, along with his wife and 11 armed forces personnel, died in an Indian Air Force (IAF) chopper crash near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday, December 8.
Tributes from all over India
Several political leaders such as Home Minister Amit Shah, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, and DMK leaders A Raja and Kanimozhi, among others, paid tributes to the CDS and his wife.
The Cremation Ceremony
Around 800 service personnel took part in the cremation ceremony of CDS and he was accorded a sombre 17-gun salute in line with protocol. The Last Post and Rouse were played by tri-services buglers, following which the funeral pyre was lit by her daughters Kritika and Tarini.
Ashes’ immersion of CDS General Bipin Rawat and his wife Madhulika Rawat is said to be done in Haridwar, Uttarakhand tomorrow around noon. Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt and several other senior dignitaries from the state to be present on the occasion.
