Rebecca Vanessa Suchiang to be the first Khasi woman to take over as new Chief Secy in Meghalaya

Rebecca Vanessa Suchiang has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Meghalaya, the state government declared on Wednesday. Suchiang is the very first Khasi woman to achieve the prestigious spot of bureaucracy.

Per an official statement, Suchiang will begin serving as the state’s newly Appointed Secretary on September 30 evening.

Ms. Suchiang will be the first Khasi woman to be elected as the state’s chief executive.

Chief Secretary MS Rao named Chief Commissioner of the State Public Service Delivery Commission

Meanwhile, under the Meghalaya Right to Public Service Act, 2020, outgoing Chief Secretary MS Rao has been named Chief Commissioner of the State Public Service Delivery Commission.

Since gaining statehood in 1972, Meghalaya’s administrative history has been documented. In the late 1980s, Trivedi became first female chief secretary.

All through her professional life, Suchiang has held positions in cabinet affairs, home (police), political, finance, personnel, and AR, among many others.

“RV Suchiang…is posted as chief secretary to the Government of Meghalaya with effect from the date of superannuation of MS Rao, chief secretary to the Government of Meghalaya i.e. on 30th September 2021 on the assumption of charge as chief secretary…”, according to a statement published by the Commissioner & Secretary in-charge Personnel & AR (A) R Lyngdoh on Wednesday.

Suchiang would also serve as Meghalaya’s state vigilance commissioner.

“It is an honor for her to make history as the first Khasi woman to hold one of the country’s most coveted positions,” Suchinang informed UNI.

Suchiang states that there are very few female chief secretaries in India

“I hope that my service and life can encourage our young clever boys and girls… especially our young brilliant females to believe that no mountain is impassable,” a top state administrator stated.
