A temple devoted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, complete with his bust, was created in the Aundh district by a local Bharatiya Janata Party activist and vanished just 72 hours after it was inaugurated. Mayur Mundhe, a local BJP worker, constructed and funded the shrine and bust, which were inaugurated by a senior citizen on Independence Day.
Criticism by the National Congress Party
The bust was taken by unknown persons late on Wednesday, despite strong condemnation from the Nationalist Congress Party, Congress, and regular citizens. Despite numerous attempts by IANS, Mundhe remained unresponsive, his phone shut off, his pals refusing to comment on the topic, and the city BJP washing its hands of the incident.
The bust erected was “illegal”
Former Pune Mayor and NCP Pune President Prashant Jagtap slammed the short-lived monument, alleging that the shrine and bust erected were “illegal” and that his party would take appropriate action.
The NPC’s symbolic protest march
The NCP staged a symbolic protest march to the site, intending to distribute diesel-kerosene to draw attention to rising fuel prices, but were disappointed when Modi’s bust was not present.
“After this temple came up, we were optimistic that fuel prices would fall, inflation would come down and people will get Rs 15 lakh in their bank accounts. But when we came here to worship, the ‘god’ was missing,” Jagtap said sarcastically.
The Congress Seva Dal condemned the act, calling it “slave mentality,” while other party leaders called it evidence of “intellectual bankruptcy.”

Why did Munda build a temple for PM Modi?
Mundhe had described it as his tribute to the PM for his ‘bold moves’ to repeal Article 370, stop “triple talaq,” and pave the way for the Ram Temple to be built in Ayodhya.
A real estate businessman by profession, Munde said, “After becoming the PM, Modi Ji has done a lot of development work. He has successfully dealt with issues like abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, paving the way for Ram Mandir temple and triple talaq.”
Expenditure
He spent roughly Rs 200,000 on the red stone and marble bust, which was specifically transported from Jaipur, and a poem he wrote in praise of the Prime Minister was also put outside the temple.
