In yet another step in the drive against drugs a special squad of Assam Police intercepted an inter-state drugs supply line, seizing contraband substances on February 14.
Assam Police intercepts inter-state drugs supply line:
A joint operation was launched by a special squad of the Guwahati police and Kamrup police, led by joint commissioner of police (Guwahati), Partha Sarathi Mahanta after tracking a vehicle (Bolero) from Imphal and seized about 0.5 kg of heroin, worth about Rs 4 crore, from the Khanapara area in Guwahati.
The accused:
All of the five accused, who are from Manipur, have been apprehended by the legal authorities of Assam.
About the incident:
While speaking to the media Partha Sarathi Mahanta said, “We were tracking the Bengal-bound Bolero, which came from Imphal, and eventually intercepted the vehicle here. The heroin, weighing little over half kilogram, was concealed in a packet containing rice. Five drugs suppliers from Manipur have been apprehended and the vehicle has been seized.”
Previous case:
Earlier last week, the Crime Branch of Guwahati Police intercepted an international drugs supply chain, apprehending two Nigerian nationals with 20 grams of cocaine upon arrival at Guwahati Railway Station here by the Rajdhani Express from New Delhi.
Two people who were arrested by the legal authorities had planned to take the contraband drugs to other places in the Northeast, sources revealed.
