OBC Scholarship for Pre-Matric and Post-Matric in Assam; find out more

Government of India released an official notice for Assam OBC Scholarship Scheme. It is a centrally sponsored scheme for the academic year of 2021-22 for Pre-Matric and Post-Metric scholarships for the students of Assam who belong to Other Backward Classes (OBC/MOBC).

The candidates who are interested and eligible can apply through online mode through National Scholarship Portal (NSP) at www.scholarships.gov.in.

Eligibility Criteria in Assam

The scholarship is for studies in India only. It will be awarded by the Government of State/Union Territory where the candidate is a permanent resident.

Individual Eligibility Criteria for Pre-Matric for OBC students

Scholarship will be sanctioned to those students whose parents/guardian annual income from all sources do not exceed Rs. 2,50,000/per annum.

In case of day scholars, scholarship will be granted to students who have enrolled in class I or any subsequent class of pre-matric stage. And in case of hostelers, class III or any subsequent class of pre-matric stage for day scholars. The scholarship will be terminated in class X and the duration of will be 10 months in an academic year.

The scholarship will be valid in such institutions and in such pre-matriculation courses which are recognised by the concerned State government and Union Territory Administrations.

The students will not be allowed to take up any job or assist their parents with their work during their studies.

The scholarship will be discontinued if the students fail to pass their annual examination except in case of unavoidable situations that are to be certified by the competent authority of the scheme.

Migration of students from one institution to another will not be allowed during the academic period other than exceptional cases and in the interest of the student’s academic career.

The scholar shall not be allowed to avail benefits of any other pre-matriculation scheme if he/she is already benefiting from this scheme.

Regular attendance should not be less than 60% in the previous academic year.

At least 5% students with disabilities should be covered for the scheme.

The bank account of the beneficiaries should be linked to Aadhar to avoid duplication.

30% is reserved for girl students to have access to the scholarship.

Individual Eligibility Criteria for Post-Matriculation for Assam Students

Scholarship will be sanctioned to those students whose parents/guardian annual income from all sources do not exceed Rs. 2,50,000/per annum.

It will be granted to Indian nationals who belong to OBC as notified by the Central Government, State Government or Union Territory administrations.

The scholarship will be provided to all post-matriculation and post-secondary courses which are recognised institutions with the following exceptions:

“Scholarships shall not be awarded for training courses like Aircraft Maintenance Engineer’s Course and Private Pilot License Courses. Courses at Training-Ship Dufferin (Now Rejendra); Courses of training at the Military College, Dehradun, Courses at pre-examination Training Centres of All India and State levels.”

Candidates belonging to OBC so specified in relation to the state/Union Territory where he/she belongs, which means permanent resident and who have passed Matriculation or Higher Secondary or any higher examination from a recognised University or Board of Secondary Education will be considered eligible.

Candidates who after passing one stage of education are studying the same stage of education but in different subjects will not be considered eligible. For instance, if a candidate has completed Masters in one subject, like English, he/she will not be able to avail the scholarship for second MA in another subject, say History, after completing the previous master’s degree.

Candidates after completing their educational career in one professional line applies for another professional line will not be eligible.

Students who are studying in Class XI of the Higher Secondary school courses or Class XII of the Multipurpose High School will not be eligible as it is a continuous school course.

▪️ However, students after passing tenth class where tenth class examination is treated as equivalent to Matriculation joins other courses will be considered eligible.

▪️ Students who are pursuing post-graduate courses in medicine will be eligible provided he/she is not allowed to practice during their course.

▪️ Students who enrol in any recognised professional or technical certificate/diploma/degree courses after failing or passing the Under Graduate/Post-Graduate examinations in Arts/Science/Commerce will be offered scholarships if they are otherwise eligible. Except for courses in Group ‘A,’ no additional failures will be tolerated, and no more changes to the course will be permitted.

▪️ Students who complete their studies through correspondence courses will be entitled for a non-refundable reimbursement. Distance and ongoing education are included in the term correspondence. Such students would be eligible for a yearly stipend of Rs. 900/- for essential/prescribed books, in addition to the non-refundable fee reimbursement.

▪️ Only two boys from the same family (parents or guardians) will be eligible for a scholarship. Girls, on the other hand, will be exempt from this restriction. As a result, scholarship applications by girls of the same parents/guardians will not affect the admissibility of scholarship applications by up to two boys of the same parents/guardians.

▪️ A holder of the scholarship under this Scheme will not be eligible for any other scholarship or stipend. If a student is awarded another scholarship or stipend, he or she may choose between the two scholarships/stipends, whichever is more beneficial to him or her, and should tell the awarding body of his or her choice through the Head of the Institution.

From the date he/she accepts any other scholarship/stipend, no scholarship would be provided to the students under this Scheme. In addition to the scholarship amount paid under this Scheme, the student may take free lodging, a grant, or ad-hoc monetary assistance from the State Government or any other source for the purchase of books, equipment, or meeting board and lodging expenditures.

▪️ Scholarship holders who receive coaching from the Central Government/State Government in any of the pre-examination training institutes will not be eligible for a stipend under the coaching schemes for the duration of the coaching programme.

▪️ Employed students whose annual income, when combined with that of their parents/guardians, does not exceed Rs. 1 lakh are eligible for post-matric scholarships covering the reimbursement of all non-refundable fees that are required to be paid.

▪️ In case of students who are unemployed and whose parents/guardian income from all sources do not exceed Rs. 1 lakh then he/she is eligible for the scholarship under this scheme.

Scholarship Application Form

Students can apply for the scholarship in online mode. The application is available online. They can also access through the national scholarship portal https://scholarships.gov.in.

How to apply

Students should visit the national scholarship portal https://scholarships.gov.in to submit the online application form for this scholarship. They should follow the steps given below to apply:

▪️ Then click the Online Application link.

▪️ After the new webpage have opened click “New Registration” link

▪️ Enter your information that is required in the portal and register yourself

▪️ After registration, enter all credentials and upload your documents that are required in the portal.

▪️ At last click “Submit” and take the print out of the application form.

Value of the Scholarship

Pre-Matric Scholarship: The value is ranging from Rs. 100 to Rs. 500/month depending on the number of classes they study.

Post-Matric Scholarship: The value will be inclusive of Maintenance Allowance, Reader Charges for blind students, reimbursement of compulsory non-refundable fees, Study Tour Charges/thesis typing/printing charges and book allowance for students pursuing correspondence course, for the complete duration of their course.
