Three Killed in Violent Clash in Manipur’s Ukhrul District
In a tragic incident, three individuals lost their lives during a recent outbreak of violence in Manipur’s Ukhrul district. The victims were caught in an exchange of gunfire with armed miscreants, leading to their untimely demise. The turmoil unfolded in Thowai Kuki village in the early hours of the day, causing a wave of shock and distress.
Reports indicate that the village was engulfed in heavy gunfire, resulting in the unfortunate deaths of Jamkhogin Haokip (26), Thangkhokai Haokip (35), and Hollenson Baite (24). The villagers initially reported three missing individuals after the eruption of intense gunfire, prompting them to launch a search operation. Tragically, their search ended in the discovery of the lifeless bodies of the victims.
Manipur has been grappling with a series of violent incidents, rooted in ethnic tensions and clashes. The violence first flared up on May 3 following a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ that sought to protest the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe status.
