Guwahati: A thorough enforcement exercise can be seen since December 1,2021 in the city as well as state in an effort to make the New Year safer for pillion riders, where hundreds of two wheeler riders were caught breaking the pillion-helmet rule.
Result
Hundreds of people were penalized for breaking the helmet-wearing-for-pillion-rider across the state, and strict enforcement was witnessed at several traffic intersections in the city.
“As directed by Hon CM @himantabiswa, for the protection of our citizens, a total of 8,127 violators have been punished for helmet related infractions,” the Guwahati Traffic Police said in a tweet.
We’ll keep continuing this drive until the roads are safe for everyone. When driving or riding pillion on a motorcycle, please wear a helmet, the tweet further stated.

The Kamrup (Metro) District Transport Office DTO has made helmets mandatory for pillion riders as of Wednesday, December 1. This is in order to reduce the risk of road accidents and make roads safer.
