A group of enthusiastic students from Oakridge International School, Visakhapatnam recently returned from a transformative journey to Houston, Texas, where they participated in the prestigious Nord Anglia Education (NAE) Summit 2025. The summit brought together young changemakers from around the globe, creating a vibrant platform for learning, collaboration, and action on some of the world’s most pressing issues — including leadership, sustainability, and global citizenship.

The students immersed themselves in a series of impactful sessions and hands-on activities, interacting with international peers, thought leaders, and global organizations. Among the key highlights was their participation in workshops organized in collaboration with UNICEF and the World’s Largest Lesson. These sessions encouraged critical thinking and solution-based approaches to global challenges, empowering the students to explore how they could contribute meaningfully to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“The summit was more than just an event — it was a launchpad for global awareness and student agency,” said a faculty member accompanying the students. “It was inspiring to see our students voice their perspectives on global issues and work hand-in-hand with peers from different countries.”

One of the standout moments of the summit was the presentation of Ekatmika, a student-led initiative from Oakridge Visakhapatnam. Rooted in the principles of equity and purpose, Ekatmika focuses on bridging educational gaps in underserved communities. The team shared the project’s journey, impact, and vision for expansion, earning applause and admiration from both peers and facilitators. The session underscored the immense potential of youth-driven initiatives and highlighted the deep sense of responsibility and leadership embodied by Oakridge students.

Beyond the conference rooms, the summit itinerary included experiential learning excursions that left lasting impressions. Among the most memorable was a visit to NASA’s Johnson Space Center — a dream destination for aspiring scientists and space enthusiasts. From gazing at life-sized rockets to learning about space missions and astronaut training, the visit ignited curiosity and awe. For many students of Oakridge, it was an inspiring glimpse into the possibilities of innovation, science, and exploration.

“Walking through NASA and seeing how far human ambition can go truly changed the way I think about my own dreams,” said one student. “It made me believe that even the stars aren’t out of reach.”

The students also explored the Houston Museum of Natural Sciences, where they engaged in a science-themed treasure hunt through interactive exhibits. Another impactful component of the trip was the students’ visit to the Houston Food Bank, one of the largest in the United States. Here, they volunteered in quality checks, sorting and packaging food for underprivileged communities. The activity offered firsthand insight into the complex systems behind food security and sustainability, as well as the importance of collective effort in addressing hunger and poverty.

“It was humbling,” shared another student. “To contribute even in a small way to feeding families and seeing how every effort matters was something I’ll never forget.”

Throughout the summit, the students also participated in dynamic dialogue circles, cultural exchange programs, and skill-building sessions that emphasized empathy, leadership, and the importance of being active global citizens. With every discussion, activity, and interaction, their understanding of the interconnected world deepened.

For Oakridge Visakhapatnam, the NAE Summit wasn’t just an international exposure opportunity — it was a powerful educational experience aligned with the school’s vision of nurturing responsible, reflective, and future-ready learners.

“This summit was a celebration of what education should be — holistic, global, and impactful,” said the school’s Principal. “We are incredibly proud of our students for representing Oakridge with such grace, intelligence, and compassion.”

As they return to India, the students carry back not just memories but also renewed motivation to apply their learning in their local communities. Whether through expanding Ekatmika, advocating for sustainability, or initiating new projects rooted in inclusion and awareness, they are now more equipped than ever to lead change.
