Gangtok Traffic Police have come up with a series of one-way routes in the State capital as lockdown curbs have been relaxed for movement of vehicles and operation of shops. This was necessitated as two major road stretches – Sisha Golai and DAC road – are blocked due to landslides since June began. No vehicle can move up along the NH 10 from Deorali since the Sisha Golai stretch is out of service since June 1. The major arterial road from DAC Sichey to Hospital Dara is also knocked out near Tamang Gumpa from June 8.
“Vehicles going up would have to take a detour from Deorali. They need to move up the Nam Nam road-Kazi Road route to reach Dukhit Pan Dokan point. This stretch would be a one-way route and no down vehicles would be allowed,” said ASP (Traffic) Arjun Tamang to media on Sunday.
Tomorrow is the first day of this new traffic arrangement. The authorities said they will have to see practically in the field about how the entire arrangement works.
