Sri Lankan police force has shot down a protester dead today and have injured several others at the people’s agitation. This has been reported as the country’s first killing.
Protester dead in Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka has reported the first killing in the protest that has been going in the country for sometime now. Till date, 10 people have been reported to be injured. This has been the first protester dead reported.
The armed forces has used ammunition against the people who were attempting to block the highway in protest of the rising essential goods prices.
As per reports, people can be seen demonstrating against the government and throwing stones at the Rambukkana Police Station.
The economic condition of the country has worsened and the law and order in the country has not been stablized. The protest is against the ruling government and they have demanded that the government resigns.
Various parts of the island nation has witnessed massive protests. Recently a group of doctors also demonstrated a protest over the shortage of medical supplies.
On monday, the government had called for a meeting of 17 new members. The meeting was conducted and many issues surfaced that the President agreed to have been at fault. This includes, ban of Chemical Fertilisers in the year 2020 and not seeking the bailout of IMF that ultimately resulted to the current situation.
