Assam down town University Hosts Major Pharmaceutical Science Gathering

The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Science at Assam down town University successfully hosted Pharma Anveshan 2026 – North East Zone, a significant academic gathering held under the aegis of the Pharmacy Council of India. The event brought together academicians, policymakers, industry leaders, and young researchers to celebrate innovation, collaboration, and advancements in pharmaceutical sciences.

The programme served as an important platform for dialogue between academia and the pharmaceutical industry, focusing on strengthening research, education, and healthcare outcomes. Participants from across the Northeast and other parts of India engaged in discussions on emerging trends in pharmacy education, technological advancements, and the evolving role of pharmacists in modern healthcare systems.

During the event, H Lalhlenmawia highlighted the importance of collaborative platforms that connect academia, industry, and regulatory bodies. He emphasized that such interactions are essential to ensure that pharmaceutical education remains relevant to real-world healthcare needs.

He encouraged pharmacy students and professionals to actively pursue research and innovation, noting that scientific discovery and technological advancements will play a critical role in strengthening India’s healthcare system. According to him, initiatives like Pharma Anveshan help nurture young researchers and foster a culture of knowledge sharing within the pharmaceutical community.

Montu Kumar M Patel Highlights Future of Pharmacy Education

The inaugural session featured the Chief Guest Montu Kumar M Patel, who addressed participants on the evolving role of pharmacists in patient care, research, and public health.

Dr. Patel highlighted the revised pharmacy curriculum aligned with the National Education Policy, which aims to modernize pharmaceutical education in India. The updated curriculum introduces emerging areas such as artificial intelligence, active pharmaceutical ingredients, medical devices, and biotechnology within the B.Pharm programme.

He also announced several initiatives aimed at strengthening digital systems in pharmacy education. A new ERP committee has been established to enhance digital infrastructure and streamline academic administration across pharmacy institutions.

In addition, Dr. Patel revealed plans to introduce medical device education at the M.Pharm level, reflecting the growing importance of interdisciplinary knowledge in pharmaceutical sciences.

Financial Support to Strengthen Pharmacy Infrastructure

During his address, Dr. Patel also shared that institutions may receive financial assistance of up to ₹1 crore to upgrade infrastructure, research facilities, and information technology systems. This initiative is expected to support pharmacy institutions in improving laboratories, research capabilities, and digital learning environments.

The move is part of broader efforts to strengthen pharmaceutical education in India and ensure that institutions are equipped with modern facilities to support cutting-edge research and innovation.

Welcoming the participants, Saikat Sen noted that Pharma Anveshan serves as a vital platform for knowledge exchange between academia and industry.
