After the “Karbi Peace Accord“, was signed, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma while talking to reporters, stated that the government will be working for the rehabilitation of the 1,000 militants, the ones who will surrender with over 300 arms, stating that these militants will be given reservation in the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, for the first time.
Also adding the fact that after the signing of the Karbi deal has been completed, a large number of arms will be deposited. After including the fact that the peace will be restored, Sarma will be leaving Delhi.
Centre signs the Karbi Anglong Agreement in Delhi
The Assam government and the Centre signed the “Karbi Peace Accord” with the various insurgent groups in Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and former CM Sarbananda Sonowal reached Delhi to sign the agreement.
The armed groups signing the Karbi agreement were Karbi Longri North Cachar Hills Liberation Front, People’s Democratic Council of Karbi Longri, United People’s Liberations Army (R), and others.
Presence of the Union minister in the meeting
Besides the Ministers of Assam, Amit Shah was also present for the signing session. After the signing of the agreement, Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla stated about the plan of the Centre hoping to further work for the development of the region.
While mentioning that the Assam government will spend around Rs 1,000 crores will be spent by the Assam government for development in the Karbi region across 5 years, Amit Shah stated that it is a part of the Modi government policy that the Centre would fulfill all the promises made to the people in the agreement itself.
The Bodo Peace accord
The past militants of the five organizations came to surrender their weapons finally after one year, the BJP signed the Bodo peace accord. The Bodoland region is an autonomous territorial region, administered by the Bodoland Territorial Council.
